IT and Operations Assistant

Lair of the Golden Bear

The Cal Alumni Association’s Lair of the Golden Bear Family Camp is seeking a team player to assist the Berkeley Technology staff with documenting the networks and providing technical support to the Lair staff in Pinecrest. In a collaborative approach, as schedule allows, provide support to our daily Camp Operations and our Lair retail business operations.

This is a summer seasonal position with a pay rate of $16 per hour. The position will work onsite 40 hours per week from June through September, and is located at the Lair of the Golden Bear Family Camp in Pinecrest, CA. Living arrangements onsite are not provided. Work schedule can be flexible, but revolves around the family camp summer schedule. Saturdays are a required work day.

Supervisor: Helpdesk Manager who is located in Berkeley, CA.

IT Technical Support

  • Document the networks (network topology diagram, hardware and software inventory, etc.)

  • Perform basic troubleshooting with the installed network devices onsite

  • Test and help improve Standard Operating Procedures

  • Document equipment that is moved, non-functioning, and/or replaced

  • Develop documentation and processes, and conduct training for effective use of computers, mobile devices, printers, phones, software, and other information systems and applications

  • Call vendor support when necessary

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance to the hardware (desktops, laptops, network devices, etc.) and software

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Camp Operations

  • Assist the Director of Family Camps and the Director of Reservations and Special Groups with executing daily duties and help with managing operations in all three camps

  • Assist Camp Managers and other departments with training and interacting with staff and campers with the upcoming season.

  • Provide outstanding customer service to our guests.

  • Troubleshoot and solve issues with the camp and retail operation; make recommendations for improvements with operations and equipment.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.


  • Ability to work with confidential information and follow data security protocols.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Able to regularly lift, push and pull up to 30 pounds, walk on uneven terrain at 5,600 ft elevation.

  • Proactive with exceptional attention to detail, organized, and the ability to keep others organized.

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be a team player, and thrive in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment is a must.

  • Technical and/or testing equipment is not provided nor is required for assigned duties.

  • Prior experience participating in or working at an organized camp program preferred.

  • Must submit to Consumer, Motor Vehicle, and FBI/DOJ fingerprint background investigations.

  • Position is classified as a CANRA mandated reporter required to report the observed or suspected abuse or neglect of children, dependent adults, or elders to designated law enforcement or social service agencies, and will be required to complete training upon hire.
