Placer County District Attorney
Sued for Gender and Age Discrimination, and Sexual Harassment

Bjork v. Placer County District Attorney's Office
U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California
Case 2:144-cv-01983

Plaintiff's Opposition to Defendant's Motion for Summary Judgment****

A lawsuit filed in 2014* (jury trial pending) alleges a pattern of discrimination and "targeting" in the Placer County District Attorney's Office.

Court documents indicate that, among other EEOC infractions, female attorneys under District Attorney R. Scott Owens and Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Wilson were regularly passed over for promotions and kept in the dark about information pertinent to the execution of their duties. These documents, available for public scrutiny,** support the allegation that targeted employees were constructively terminated or forced out by Owens and Wilson and that Wilson's vulgar and repulsive statements were found to have violated the County's policy on sexual harassment***.

Unfortunately for the voters of Placer County, the jury trial is scheduled for 2019.

What can you do?

Members of the Placer County Board of Supervisors and the District Attorney are elected to their positions. However, the Assistant DA while chosen by the DA, is a civil servant under the ultimate control of the Board of Supervisors. So,

• 1. Call the Board of Supervisors show contact info or email bosATplacer.ca.gov and insist that Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Wilson be placed on leave of absence without pay pending the outcome of this lawsuit.

• 2. Put the Board of Supervisors on notice that WE, the citizens of Placer County, care about the fair and equal treatment of county employees and refuse to stand by while power is used to retaliate against whistle-blowers.

• 3. Call District Attorney Scott Owens show contact info or email sowensATplacer.ca.gov and let him know that WE, the citizens of Placer County, expect the DA's office to comply with its stated policy as "an equal opportunity employer ... committed to an active nondiscrimination program ... that harassment and retaliation is prohibited and that all employees and applicants shall receive equal consideration and treatment."***

R. Scott Owens
