condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: MEADE
model name / number: 12IN LX200 GPS ACF
size / dimensions: BIG, HEAVY
Used Meade 12” f10 LX200 GPS ACF fork mounted computerized telescope on a very heavy duty Meade Giant Field tripod as shown. Comes with a straight-through finderscope, 1.25” visual back with cap (a silly constriction…get a 2” or better yet a Peterson Eye Opener and the 2” or the equivalent), front cap, 12v accessory type power cord, Autostar II hand controller and instruction manual. No eyepieces, diagonal or power supply.

Note this is the latest Meade SCT optical design, designated "ACF", for "Advanced Coma Free".

Optics, glass and coatings excellent, no issues, super views under the right sky conditions as you’d expect. Some storage/usage aging of the tripod and lower fork area so that area is not cosmetically mint. Photo of the corrector shows my poor photography, the bright blue mottling on the left is a reflection of sky peeking around a tree.

Aside from the GPS not fully working as is common with these and other GPS equipped scopes of the time period (called the “GPS rollover” issue, connects but sees the wrong year…Google it) there are simple solutions for that: take 30 seconds and enter the info manually or use a StarGPS module. The scope works fine once this is addressed, alignment works well, delivers an excellent view as would be expected.

That being said, and especially if you’re a fairly new to the sport, please view this excellent Ed Ting video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieLTvndz4_g , specifically the third subject titled “Unrealistic Expectations of GoTo Systems”.

Note: The fork mounted OTA weighs a TON, in my opinion too heavy and awkward for one person to handle even with the four built-in handles. Highpoint lists the fork/OTA at 75lbs, the tripod at 50lbs.

Tested and used by me…nice scope if you can find someone to help you lift it!

$2400, price firm for now, thought I'd offer it semi-locally before posting it on Astromart. Current new retail on the Meade site is $6800. Cash only unless you have something interesting or re-sellable towards a trade.

Use the CL email system to reply, put "Meade 12in LX200 telescope" in the subject line and the same along with your name in the body of your reply or it will be ignored.

Local or semi-local meetup/pickup in the Northern California area (including San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento) only, preferably here in Chico. I definitely WON’T ship this. I will be attending the Golden State Star Party in July, I can bring things if a meetup isn't practical.

Tom

PS: I have a lot of other astronomy gear for sale, let me know if you have something you are looking for or would like to see a list.

PSS: I have been involved in amateur astronomy and dealing in astronomy equipment on a casual basis for 16 years, have had literally hundreds of scopes, mounts, eyepieces and accessories. Point is this is not just a garage sale find being flipped, this is being sold by a knowledgeable and experienced seller that has tested and used the equipment I offer for sale.
