The Extreme Weather Shelter Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing the NSJ Community Center’s emergency shelter during activation periods. This role ensures shelter operations run safely, smoothly, and compassionately. The Shelter Manager provides guidance to volunteers, oversees guest services, and works closely with the NSJCC Board of Directors to deliver a supportive, respectful, trauma-informed, and community-centered shelter environment for all those involved. This role requires strong leadership, calm decision-making, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced and occasionally high-stress situations.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum three (3) years of related professional or demonstrable community experience (program coordination, social services, crisis response, community outreach, advocacy, etc.).
Familiarity with rural community needs and local support resources in Nevada County.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to work in fast-paced, fluid, and sometimes high-stress environments.
Lived experience with homelessness.
Reliable transportation and means of communication.
Ability to pass a background check.
Strong professional references.
Preferred:
Experience with trauma-informed care, harm-reduction practices, or conflict de-escalation.
Experience managing community programs
