This classic, red and black "buffalo plaid" men's wool shirt was probably bought sometime in the 1970s, or maybe early 1980s, in the original LL Bean Store in Freeport Maine. My dad was a deer hunter and went to Maine every fall with a few friends, probably covering a span of 30 years. They would usually stop at LL Bean for supplies etc.
My father had two of these classic shirts. One hangs in my closet as I write this, it is well used, elbows are worn through! I'm guessing he decided to replace his old LL Bean shirt with a new one, then evidently, never went hunting again, it looks like it's never been worn. It has been carefully stored in a cedar chest, and is in perfect condition. It is a warm, rugged, and timeless, a true classic garment.
This shirt is 100% wool. Those are no longer available. These days LL Bean sells a "wool blend" that looks the same as far as I can tell from the LL Bean website. That current edition sells for $170!
